Qatar PM Speaks With Iranian Foreign Minister on Strait of Hormuz Shipping Corridor Talks

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani held a telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

Qatar's top diplomat held a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday, as diplomatic efforts around the Strait of Hormuz continued to gather momentum across the Gulf region.

HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Abbas Araghchi used the call to exchange views on the latest regional developments, with the discussion centering on the ongoing talks between Oman and Iran regarding the establishment of a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and a collaborative project to clear mines from the critical waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategically significant maritime passages, with a substantial share of global oil and gas shipments passing through it daily. Any disruption to navigation in the Strait carries far-reaching consequences for energy markets and international trade making the current diplomatic push all the more significant.

During the call, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Qatar's full backing for diplomatic solutions that guarantee the freedom of maritime navigation and create the conditions necessary for reaching a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement in the region. Qatar's position remains consistent — dialogue and diplomacy are the only path to sustainable stability.
